2 Types of redlam panic bolt and its Function
1. MK 1 Type – Designed for single doors, this type is for the purpose of turning the external door into an emergency fire exit. Mark I is equivalent to a combination of cost effective, reliable and secure internal emergency exit door, making it one of the most economical choices for your doorsets.
2. MK 2 Type – Specifically designed for the interconnection of emergency exit doors. This type of panic bolt gives you 2 great options to activate under any emergency situation. When you are inside the fire exit, you can open the door by simply breaking the ceramtube. On the other side of the door, all you have to do is push a certain knob and the activation of the door open system is easy as pie.
Reminder: An optional padlock is needed to prevent unauthorized removal of the ceramtube. Since not all suppliers would include a lock and key pair in the accessory, ask your supplier. If it isn’t there, you might want to consider buying one for assurance.

Securing Ceramtubes of your Redlam Panic Bolt
If you are interested to secure your ceramic tube in the panic bolt, you have to provide it with a padlock and key. The Redlam is designed with a slot where you can put the padlock for securing that no one else can take the breakable tubes without authorization. This particular security measure is very important for this fire safety equipment to function right.
Preventive Maintenance
Not just your Redlam panic bolt but all of the fire escape and fire safety gadgets, tools equipments and even the simple small glow in the dark fire exit signs or a fire gas horn need to be properly checked and maintained. Without doing this, every effort to make a building or establishment fire proof and safe would be futile.
In a hotel where I used to work, we have a regular monthly checking of all matters concerning safety and we make sure that they are all intact and would properly function in an event of emergency or fire, 24/7 basis.
Using a log book, we list down the regular check up date and the results. Afterwards, we make a report and submit to the hotel management with proper recommendation. Safety is not an idea to toy with so make sure that everything is in its right condition and ready for any emergency.
