Fire Safety Equipment
Importance of Fire Safety Equipments
Fire safety equipments are essential in every home and business establishment alike. They are considered a necessity in terms of fire prevention and the protection of human lives and properties and they are our first line of defense in fire deterrence. Among the most common fire safety equipment that are being utilized even in our homes are the fire extinguishers, and the smoke detectors. But when it comes to a much bigger structure like cinemas, shopping malls, office buildings, and any other kind of business establishments, we need to employ a different kind of life saving fire safety equipments.
Among the fire safety equipments that are being utilized in business establishments are the fire and smoke seals, fire escape ladder, the exit stopper, the redlam panic bolt, and the doorgard.
Uses of Different fire safety equipment:
1. The main purpose of using fire and smoke seals is to resist, slow down, and isolate the fire and the toxic gases from spreading through small gaps between the door and its frame. During a fire, when the accumulated temperature reaches the maximum threshold of the material used in fire and smoke seals, the intumescent material from the fire and smoke seals expands several times its original volume thereby sealing the gaps and inhibiting fire and smoke from breaking away and transferring into the unaffected areas.
2. The fire escape ladder on the other hand is another fire escape equipment that provides you with a shorter escape route that eventually leads outside of a burning house or any other kind of establishment especially when you are situated on the upper floor of a burning structure.
3. The exit stopper is another important fire safety equipment that must be employed in structures that have emergency exit doors. It is a very effective way of alerting occupants of a house, building, or any kind of establishment of any illegal or unauthorized entries or exits using any emergency exit doors. It is also an economical but effective equipment in terms of security because it helps prevent theft using the fire exit. It also helps other people who are not familiar with the place to find the emergency exit doors in case there is a fire. The exit stopper works when the protected door is opened. It then continuously emits an ear piercing alarm. But when the door where the alarm is located, closes, it automatically stops and resets.
4. The redlam panic bolt is commonly used in internal emergency exits. By breaking the ceramic tube, the bolt will slide back and the door will be unlocked automatically.
5. The doorgard is a safe and lawful equipment to hold your fire doors open because wedged open fire doors is a serious offense on the part of the building owners. The doorgard is an acoustic device which means it is sound activated, that reliably holds a fire door open at any angle and it automatically releases the door and shuts them if an alarm sounds. It is also battery operated so there is no more need for complicated and costly wiring.
