How and Where to put Fire Exit Signs

When we talk about health and safety of the people living in the United Kingdom, there have been number laws that are being implemented regarding peoples safety in the workplace and in areas where a large number of people is present. The same goes with any other businesses or establishments. The government in the United Kingdom is making sure that every structure has the right kind of first aid kits and fire extinguishers in position in case of emergencies. They need to make sure that every establishment has installed fire exit signs that comply with existing laws in the United Kingdom and they have completed a fire risk assessment.

In all government and public buildings, offices, and factories, the use of fire safety equipment and devices like dorgards, exit stopper, fire and smoke seals, and fire exit signs are required for them to have a favorable decision in their fire risk assessment. There should be signs above the doors that are to be utilized as the exit points in case of a fire or any emergency that requires the evacuation of the occupants.

Today, the signs that are being used in the UK, mostly have a picture which denotes that this certain door is to be used to exit a building when an emergency that requires evacuation occurs. Plus, along with the picture, there should also be wordings below telling that it is a fire exit. Plus there should be other signs that will guide the people where the fire exits are.

In some cases, a fire exit sign which also illustrate a floor plan may also be used to clearly guide the people on the right way to take to reach the fire exit in the event of a fire. On each type of fire exit sign, the routes to be taken in case of a fire should be highlighted in red, while the other routes should be highlighted in black.

When installing fire exit signs, they should make it a point not place the sign in a position where it can’t be seen clearly from all areas of the room. Today, some companies are having photo luminescent signs installed because it is more cost effective compared to the cost of installation of emergency lightings.

Today, it is compulsory in the United Kingdom for all fire escape routes to have signs above them that specifically tells people what they are to be used for. It is also essential that the signs to be utilized are the ones that comply with the current fire safety regulations. And to give them a more in-depth knowledge of the issue they should speak to their local fire officer or a professional fire risk assessor.

So, when we talk about fire exit signs that should be used in all public and private establishments, you can either use a sign with just a symbol that clearly shows a person walking towards a door or a symbol with wordings on them that clearly says “Fire Exit”.
