Ceramtubes: An Innovation for Exit Door Panic Bolts

Ceramtubes are short term for ceramic tubes. It is used and designed basically to complement with a Redlam Panic Bolt for a high safety mechanism and security to internal emergency exit door. Easy to break in case of fire and other emergencies, this tube helps aid the semi-automatic open function of panic bolts while safety is at hand. Because ceramtubes used in panic bolts are safer to break during emergencies, there is less risk of injury than when you use the old break glass bolts that used glass tubes. Experience and rigid experiments reveal that for fire safety, it is best to use ceramic than glass, making ceramic tubes a better choice.

Designed for Safety and Reliability

Fire prevention tools and equipments are all designed for one purpose – to be reliable and safe and provide the same expectation to the people around who will use them. Same purpose goes around the design of ceramtubes. The early device used to fill in its place is the break glass tube which is easy to break but offers high risk of injury when you try to break them under the pressure of an emergency situation.

For this reason, the ceramic tube was conceptualized and thus, made to replace break glass tubes that were found to be prone to additional fire accidents. Available either in boxes of 20 package and individual, this little fire prevention and safety gadget is good to have around if you want to make your doorsets in the fire exit compliant to certain standards related to construction and fire safety and prevention.

Why Ceramtubes are Equivalent to Safety

Safety is often compromised whenever there are emergencies and they become worse during fire. The only way to minimize such risk and avoid any accident is to use materials, gadgets, equipments and tools that help lessen, if not prevent risk of injury from happening. Ceramtubes in particular can be a small yet simple way to do that.

Compared to the early version of this additional gadget for panic bolts (the break glass tube), sharp edges were taken out from the possible causes of extra injury that used to occur during fire exit door rush. With ceramic, there is less likely that you incur injury when you break it to automatically open the door. This way, you won’t even have to take notice any of the fire exit signs, just rush for your safety in flash.

How Ceramtubes Function

Simple designs need no complication and panic bolts need nothing special for their automatic activation system to open the bolt and eventually open up the exit door. “When a ceramtube is broken using the equipped chain and hammer, the bolt slides back automatically and the door opens up for easy fire escape.” You can only do this from the inside by which bolts were designed for.

What’s best for this simple activation process is that it is quick, precise, and almost effortless which fits exactly in emergency cases like fire. Another good thing that comes with the use of such simple locking and unlocking system is that the broken switch will not produce any sharp edges that can injure even the small hands of a child. Ceramtubes are simple yet amazing automation of internal exit door open mechanism and a perfect complement to intumescent seals in the door.
